Orange You Glad You Wore Orange?

Hello, my little Pr0n Stars!  Don’t think I haven’t missed you.  Hopefully I’m back, as is the pr0n; we’ll see what form it takes.

Today I want to talk about broadening your color horizons.  A few years ago if you’d looked in my closet, you’d see all shades of blue, pink and purple.  I knew what looked good on me, but there were so many other colors missing!  Since then, I’ve been adding poor, neglected orange, green and yellow.  They may seem like tricky colors, but before we’re done you’ll all be running out to taste the rainbow.

Let me show you some of my recent purchases, and lusts (it wouldn’t be pr0n without lust).  It wouldn’t be Spring without a pair of cute little go-with-everything flats, but if you’re like me with very high arches (VERY), that may seem like an impossible task. Born Peony in Orange

UNTIL I found Peony, by Börn. Börn shoes are like the Birkenstock of shoes, with high quality that fit the contours of your feet.   Look at the adorable Peony flower that will tell everyone that you’re not afraid of color.

I picked these up in orange; other colors such as green, yellow, blue, black and pink are a bit harder to find. But what an easy way to add a pop of go-with-everything color to your wardrobe!

.

Kate Spade Tutti Frutti Maryanne

Speaking of easy pops of color – try a brightly colored handbag for spring!  PUT THE BLACK HANDBAG DOWN.  Din said so.  (My peeps call me Din.  That’s just how we roll.)

I’m always lusting after a Kate Spade (or 5) and throw in patent leather and I’m a puddle on the floor.  This Tutti Frutti Maryanne is on sale (ON SALE) for $228, including free shipping at Kate Spade.com.

You didn’t hear it from me, but there’s usually a sale on sale this time of year. Put yourself on a website’s mailing list to be the first to know about sales, get coupons, etc.

.

My new go-to website for cute clothes is Tobi.com.  They’ve got a great selection, and especially their sale stuff is super reasonably priced.  They ship usually same or next day, so if you live on the West Coast, you’ll get your stuff in a snap!  Everyone knows getting the stuff is part of the fun when you order online.

You know the feeling you get slipping into your favorite t-shirt? That’s the feeling you get putting on clothing by Velvet by Graham & Spencer – one of my new favorite brands for tops, sweaters and dresses. Their stuff is just to-die-for soft, and if you’re a bit on the smaller busted side, you’ll thank me in the heat of summer when you pull on their Lisbet Dress in Medium for $29! Scurry – this little melon darling won’t last long.

.

But not all of us can pull off such a dress, and most of us have lives wherein we’re in air-conditioning about 40 hours a week. For you, my little Pr0n Workers, I point you to your nearest Anthropologie for the Reed Shirtdress.

It’s sold out online in orange , but if you like it, hopefully you can find it in one of their brick and mortar stores once another pr0n star returns it (the horror!) or find it in a different color. It’s only $59.95 down from $118…

Which is a perfect segue (I used to be able to spell that word) to pimp one of my new favorite blogs: Effortless Anthropologie.

It’s author, Roxie, knows this store inside and out – to an extent that’s almost a little scary. :) But lucky for us she shares her knowledge with review posts, complete with pictures, and sale posts every week. If you’re not reading Roxie, you’re going to miss what you want.

>

Orange is so wearable my little Pr0n Stars: pale blonds, dark brunettes, and even redheads can wear this color in the right shade.  When you do wear it, you will get so many complements!  Most of them from non-stars who didn’t think they could wear orange.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it, and hopefully I’ll have another one later in the week!  Comments are love.  :)

Until next time, it was good for me; tell me, was it good for you?

Net-A-Porter Super Sale!

Thanks to my friend Grechen, over at Grechen’s Closet, I was tipped off that designer mecca site Net-A-Porter had taken another 20% off their sale prices.  Net-A-Porter definitely runs towards the true designer end of the scale, so even deeply discounted is going to cost you a few pennies.

Doma Stitched Leather Jacket, $242.50, Sz. L

Doma Stitched Leather Jacket, $242.50, Sz. L

But if you’re one of my readers who invests in this type of clothing, or waits for this type of sale to spend your money, there are deals to be had.  I’ve tried to pick out only the most worthwhile to show you.  FYI, all products are linked to via their pictures.

.

At just under half price (was $505), this Doma stitched leather jacket is still a steal.  You’re looking at a red leather collarless jacket with stitched detailing around the neckline.

The jacket has long sleeves, two zipped pockets, a zip athrough the front and is fully lined.  It’s available only in size Large, which is probably going to be around a U.S. 10.  It’s like buttah, and it’s going to be gone in a heartbeat.

.

Tibi Bow Collar Dress, $177.60, Sz. M,L

Tibi Bow Collar Dress, $177.60, Sz. M,L

Tibi is quickly popping up on my brand radar for their beautiful blouses and dresses in feminine fabrics, colors and styles.  This particular dress reminds me of Milly NYC, which has been a great diappointment to me Spring/Summer.

You all know what a fan I am of retro influenced styles, especially ’60s/mod looks.  This coral mini-dress is made in a heavy jersey with a large bow at the neckline, elbow length sleeves and a side zip.

Sizes medium and large, or about U.S. 8-10 can get this on sale for $177.60, down from $370.  Pictures, please!

.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Short Wool Coat, $264, Sz. S-L

Marc by Marc Jacobs Short Wool Coat, $264, Sz. S-L

Often you can get a good deal by buying off season.  If you’re good at delayed gratification, buying for next fall or winter is a great idea.

Think how cheery this coral Marc by Marc Jacobs short winter coat will make you when you walk through a sea of black and grey.   Everyone should have a longer formal winter coat, and a shorter casual one.

This was originally $550, but is on sale for $264, and is still available in sizes small, medium and large.  It’s 80% wool, 20% nylon with a back pleat and satin lining.

.

"Calisten", Cotton/Acrylic Grape Cardigan, $78.45, Sz. L

"Calisten", Cotton/Acrylic Grape Cardigan, $78.45, Sz. L

Since I don’t wear wool, I find it difficult to find really cozy, soft sweaters.  This grape colored cardigan by Malene Birger looks so soft and so comfortable for a size Large.

It’s a cotton/acrylic blend with a round neckline, long sleeves, white beaded buttons and front pockets to keep your well manicured fingers warm. :)

I particularly appreciate the edging at the cuffs and hem, which will help a good sweater keep its shape.  “Calisten” retailed for $245 and is now an incredible buy at only $78.40.

.

I have a confession: I think these Tory Burch Jelly Reva flats are adorable.  I know, I know.  I can’t help it; every fashionista has their weakness.

Tory Burch Jelly Reva Flats, $38, Sz. 8/8.5

Tory Burch Jelly Reva Flats, $38, Sz. 8/8.5

But listen: aside from cobalt blue, sunshine/schoolbus yellow is the color this season.  I snatched up a Dooney & Bourke handbag in the color on sale and I just adore it.  I get complimented on it all the time.

If you wear a size 8/8.5  shoe, these normally $98 flats are on sale for $38! You all are lucky I rarely wear flats, otherwise we’d have to throw down.

Sizing info says to go down half a size if you wear a half size, and they’re available in an 8.

.

Yesterday, I was reminded by my good friend Heidi (who writes a really thoughtful size acceptance blog) that a good handbag is an investment.  Especially if it’s not too trendy, it’s something that you’ll have and use for years.

Mulberry Large Soho Shoulder Bag, $278

Mulberry Large Soho Shoulder Bag, $278

That’s why I’m recommending this Mulberry Large Soho bag, for $278.  To start, you can’t get a good designer bag for $278 unless you’re very lucky.

This is a classic shape in a not-too-trendy color.  Be careful, as it may be a touch more orangey than it appears, depending on your monitor.

Soho has an adjustable shoulder strap, and silver hardware including a turnlock, which is a very safe closure.  The inside is lined in twill.

See here, and check out this picture for a sense of how big it is – it’s definitely roomie, and has a nice drop long enough to be worn on your shoulder.

Best of all – handbags have no size.  Anyone can wear them. :D  Last but not least, for more deals check out The Outnet, Net-a-Porter’s “bargain” little sister.

Thanks for reading, my little pr0n plums!

As always, it was good for me.  Tell me, was it good for you?

Pr0n Lust List 6/15

I’m often asked to explain the concept of “Shopping Pr0n”: actual pr0n could be defined as looking at sex that is displayed in a  highly stylized manner which has been made to look appealing, in order to arouse you.

Shopping is my pr0n.  I love to look at fashion, some of which has been made to look particularly attractive and is certainly appealing to me.  “Pr0n Lust List” will be what I’m lusting at around the web.  Hopefully some of these pieces will find a “forever home” with one of you, most precious pr0n stars.

..

I’ve almost bought this Juicy Sundress at Tobi more times than I care to admit.  It’s just so sunshiney and comfortable looking.

Juicy Linen Sundress, $131, Tobi.com

Juicy Linen Sundress, $131, Tobi.com

I love the wide straps and the empire waist with the wide sash.  So why haven’t I bought it?  One, it’s $131.  For a sundress.  Even I have my limits.

Two, I’m uncertain about how Juicy fits.  The one time I tried on their tops they were cut small in the chest and um, that’s not going to work.

Finally I’m worried about the low back.  If the entire back of my bra is going to show, it’s a deal breaker.  If you’re pear-y, but smaller on top, consider this dress (and send pictures!)

.

Julie Brown cotton/silk, "Margie" at Bluefly, $172

Julie Brown cotton/silk, "Margie" at Bluefly, $172

Speaking of dresses I shouldn’t want, but do, I’m gaga over this Julie Brown diamond print “Margie” dress at Bluefly.  It’s just so…fabulously Twiggy to me.

Margie has a rounded neckline with a button close panel, it slips on and has 3/4 length sleeves and a cotton voile lining.  I’d like to see this on a fabulous brunette or Norweigan blonde maybe.

Sizes 2-8 with great legs can still snatch this up for $172 (and send pictures!).  Step away from the white go-go boots and try a pair of retro-stacked pumps.

.

Priorities "Off-Shore" Jacket, $82, Bluefly

Priorities "Off-Shore" Jacket, $82, Bluefly

This Priorities jacket from Bluefly will be mine!  I love layering shorter things over longer things; it can be a really flattering style because it draws the eye up to where you’re smaller, but still lengthens (with the longer piece underneath).

Normally I frown on one button jackets for busty girls, but because the stance (where the top “V” on the jacket) actually hits here, it’s an exception to the rule.  It’s not a classic one-button style, which are typically for petite women.

$82 is a little high…maybe I can wait until a 20% off sale rolls around.  But omg, how cute is the lining??

Kate Spade Tarrytown Small Maedea, $???, KateSpade.com

Kate Spade Tarrytown Small Maedea, $???, KateSpade.com

Kate Spade is taunting me.  That’s right, they’re doing this just to hurt me personally.  They keep putting on sale their Tarrytown Small Maedea in Robbin’s Egg Blue when I don’t have money, and it’s making me cry.  Dear Kate Spade: I can has July 4th sale pleez?  Luv, Din.

I saw the bag when it first came in and nearly cried because this bag is made for me.  For me, people!  Except that I can’t buy a $575 handbag.

The other day it was on sale for $4something and then another 25% off, which brought it down to around $350, which is still expensive, but realistic for a really nice handbag.

I’m not getting an iPhone ’til the holidays, so this could be my birthday present! (I really can justify anything.)  Still, I wait.

Bettye Mueller "Bingo", $129 at Simply Soles

Bettye Mueller "Bingo", $129 at Simply Soles

Bettye Mueller sure got it right when she named these shoes “Bingo”.  They’re on sale over at one of my favorite dream stores, SimplySoles.  $129 is a fair price for a pair of designer shoes, and a great price for a pair of Bettye Muellers.

These are just the cutest things I’ve seen.  Where else would you find a red, white and blue Madras plaid on a pair of 1.5″ kitten heels?? <3  Simply Soles has them in stock in 5.5, 6 and 9.5.

I’m tempted to wishlist them…just in case.  But if you buy these, my little pr0n pudding, send pictures!

See by Chloe Daisy Rosette Dress, $347, Tobi.com

See by Chloe Daisy Rosette Dress, $347, Tobi.com

For my last lust of the week, I want to show you a dress that is so unique.  This See by Chloe Daisy Rosette dress looks like a painting.

The combination of the simple design and the dreamy pattern make this dress a winner for somebody, and not this poor model who looks so unhappy.  What gives, Tobi?

$347 on final sale (was $695), European sizes 38 – 44, which are U.S….4-10?  I can see this on some fashion-forward beauty with dark hair and pale skin.  Or maybe a redhead!

I played with this dress over on Polyvore (and actually if you’re a 40 or 42, you can get it for $240 on Net-A-Porter) but I’d love to see someone rock it in real life.

.
Alas, if I were to share with you everything I was lusting after it would probably take up this entire blog.  But I hope you’ve enjoyed some of my favorite pr0n this week!

.
As always, it was good for me.  Tell me, was it good for you?

Related Pr0n: I Won on Polyvore!

We interrupt this shopping blog for a very special announcement: I WON!  From time to time you’ve seen me use this really nifty website Polyvore to show you lots of products at once, or an entire outfit altogether.  Polyvore lets you snatch bits o’ the web and put them together along with bits o’  the web that everyone else has snatched.

For instance, I used it when showing you How to Dress for Your Body Type  if you’re a pear shape; I used it when we were talking about Stretching Your Closet , to show you the outfit I’d pulled together from my own closet, and again when I was asking for your help the the very same dress in Dress this Mess.  I even managed to eek out a couple of men’s outfits when talking about Sample Sales and Sunday Brunch Outfits, and to show you how to (properly) dress like Michelle Obama. Oh, heck.  Just click the Polyvore tag and go wild!

.

But aside from being a really helpful tool for bloggers, it’s just a lot of fun, and lets you express your artistic or fashion skillz in a different way.

Just today your dear blogger WON a contest!  Through the Bloggers on Polyvore group, my set took first prize in the “Submit Your Best Set” contest.  here it is:

Yay! I’m really proud of my little set, but I can’t overlook some of my other favorites, too:

So if you’ve ever wondered what could possibly drag your dear blogger away from you, my favorite little pr0n pomegranates – it’s this… I’m playing with all my sets in Polvore.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Shopping Pr0n, with Pr0n Plus: the very best in plus size fashion, hopefully coming tonight.

Until then: it was good for me; tell me, was it good for you?

Outfit of the Day: Totally Awesome ’80s Style

Sarah Jessica Parker and Amy Linker in Square Pegs

Sarah Jessica Parker and Amy Linker in Square Pegs

Like, welcome to the ’80s, my preppy pr0n pals.  Today’s post is going to be totally awesome.  I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the ’80s styles are back, and like, that’s a decade your blogger totally knows.

There are lots of different types of ’80s fashion; I mean there were the punks, and the Madonna wannabes – grody to the max – but the style I remember best is preppy.  Pr0nSis was a totally tubular dresser if you know what I mean.  She had The Preppy Handbook, and shopped at Talbots, which was like totally different back then.

So, like, put in your Beta tape of Square Pegs and pay attention – because before Sarah Jessica Parker was Carrie, she was Patty. And she was totally awesome.  Totally.

Lily Pulitzer Pink Polo , $69 @ Zappos

Lily Pulitzer Pink Polo , $69 @ Zappos

The start to any prep fashion worth its plaid is its polo shirt.  These are still easy to find, but there are three keys to properly wearing this retro style.

When buying a polo shirt, you want consider fit, color, and layering.  Polo styles should be fitted; I don’t want to see anything your mom would wear.  Colors should be bright and layering is encouraged – and always, always pop the collar.

Fitzwell LondonGreen Polo, $29 at Zappos

Fitzwell LondonGreen Polo, $29 at Zappos

I chose pink and green polo shirts; two colors any prep would be proud to style: a Lily Pulitzer true pink, and a Fitzwell Polo in minty green, both from Zappos.

Lacoste Cotton V-neck Cable Knit Sweater, $71.99

Lacoste Cotton V-neck Cable Knit Sweater, $71.99

In this instance I’d prefer to see the pink on top, because the Lily Pulitzer is pique; pique is a plus for ’80s fashion.

Go even further by layering a cardigan or tennis sweater on top.  For the moment the style is that the sweater is going to go draped over your shoulders, tied in front.

I went with a classic v-neck cable neck sweater from Lacoste.  Cable knit is definitely a plus, and you could do an entire preppy wardrobe at Lacoste if you were careful.

.

From here preppy style can go a few ways: preferably either  a skirt or capris; whichever one you choose the theme is still about color and fit.

Lily Pulitzer Georgie Reversible Skirt, $71.20 @Preppy Outlet

Lily Pulitzer Georgie Reversible Skirt, $71.20 @Preppy Outlet

Skirts should be straight or have a bit of an a-line, wrap skirts are a plus; anything with small animals on it is a big plus.  This is preppy fashion: skirts are above the knee and then some. No micro minis, but maybe mid-thigh.

.

Lily Pulitzer Georgie Reversible Skirt, $71.20@Preppy Outlet

Lily Pulitzer Georgie Reversible Skirt, $71.20@Preppy Outlet

Lily Pulitzer has merely updated its style since the ’80s, making it a choice fashion brand to use.

The Georgie reversible wrap skirt changes from a light blue buttoned slightly sailor style, to a pale green with pink embroidered monkeys on it!  Monkeys!  This is preppy perfection and two skirts in one for $71.20.

.
Let’s talk capri pants.  Why wear capris?  You can wear a full length pant for ’80s preppy fashion, but I think when you see what’s next you’ll understand why you won’t want to.

Ralph Lauren Stretch Golf Pants, $125

Ralph Lauren Stretch Golf Pants, $125

To start, these aren’t just any capri pants.  ’80’s preppy pants are flat front, slim fit, brightly colored pants, frequently with a split hem.

With this particular outfit I could have turned down the volume slightly with the Resort Kiwi color, but I went full blast by using the Classic Lemon color of the Ralph Lauren Stretch Golf Pants.  If you’re going ’80’s preppy style, you can’t be afraid of color.

Tods Heaven Boatstitch Loafers, $316 at Bluefly

Tods Heaven Boatstitch Loafers, $316 at Bluefly

Shoes and bags are needed to accessorize our ’80s style preppy outfit.  A relatively wide variety of shoes can be adapted, so long as you follow two rules: color and flats.

Something as simple as a pair of Keds would work,  or you could choose a pair of brightly colored loafers like these Tod’s.

Kate Spade Green Maui Jelly Thongs, $28.99 @Bluefly

Kate Spade Green Maui Jelly Thongs, $28.99 @Bluefly

For summer, a pair of bright flat sandals will also work very well for this style.  Make sure the style isn’t overly modern: no gladiator sandals, and no metallics.

Think simple and bright, like these adorable Kate Spade Jellies.  Jellies are sooo ’80s style.

Bright white sandals would also work fine, but I can’t stress this enough when talking about ’80s preppy fashion: don’t be afraid of color.

.

For handbags, think about “conservative” brands and structured styles in bright colors; no hobos, or other slouchy styles.  Structured totes are best, or a conservative satchel.  Kate Spade, some Tory Burch, Coach.  I’ve shown some examples of do’s and dont’s below.

Ray Ban Wayfarers

Preppy sunglasses are definitely different from what’s chic today; no oversized round plastic frames.  I have two words for you Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

If you don’t know what I mean, watch Tom Cruise in Risky Business.  If you haven’t seen Risky Business, you don’t understand the ’80s.

So, like there you go and stuff.  You’re totally preppy, and it’s all, like ’80s fashion style.

How to Shop For Your Body Type: The Pear

Pr0n pals, I’m really excited about today’s post.  One of my strengths is being able to see what clothing styles work on different body types; it’s something I’ve worked at, rather than springing from Pr0n Mom’s womb the fashionista I am today.  So I was thrilled when my friend Rebecca wrote to me and said she was fashion challenged for her body type.

Meet Rebecca

Meet Rebecca

Rebecca is pretty normal: average to plus size figure, young, married with a young child, and doesn’t have tons of money to spend but deserves to look her best.  She’s just a little style challenged.  Today’s post promises to be full of fashion tips, do’s and don’ts, and really down-to-earth advice about buying clothing and putting together outfits that you’ll enjoy.  Let’s meet Rebecca.

.
If there was ever a pear shape, Rebecca’s it.  She’s 5’7″,  and according to her measurements wears about a 14 on top and an 18 on bottom. She doesn’t have a very defined waist and she carries a lot of her weight in her hips.  I doubt you’d call Rebecca plus sized if you met her; just curvy.

Rebecca Now

Rebecca Now

But  when Rebecca told me she didn’t know how to dress, she wasn’t kidding.  This is more or less the outfit she was wearing in the picture she sent me.

I don’t know very many people who can wear well horizontal stripes.  Her top was too long, shapeless, and made her look wider than she is.  Her jeans just didn’t fit well and didn’t flatter.

That’s just a bad dream from now on; what Rebecca or other pear shapes should achieve with her clothing is learning to minimize her hips, bringing the rest of her body into proportion, and creating a long, lean silhouette by using clothing shape and color to her advantage. Fashion is 50% architecture, 50% art.

.

Pear Shape Dress

Pear Shape Dress

The first virtual outfit I used is so simple and perfect for pear shapes, you’ll wonder why you never tried it.  This is a scoop neck sheath dress in a solid color, with a wide waistband, and a hem that hits just above the knee.

Immediately, Rebecca looks four inches taller and 20 pounds thinner!  The open neckline on the dress helps to balance her hips and chest, while the monochrome color and sheath glide over her hips so your eye doesn’t focus there.  The really critical piece is the dress’ hemline.  If the hemline were much higher it wouldn’t look age appropriate, any lower and the dress will make her body look short and dumpy.

Nine West Short Sleeve Plus Size Dress, $83.40 at Macy's

Nine West Short Sleeve Plus Size Dress, $83.40 at Macy's

In real life I found this adorable Nine West dress at Macy’s.  If she buys a 1x she may need to have the top taken in a bit – such is life as a pear shape, because you need to fit the widest part of you – your bottom  half.  But what I like is that the dress is youthful, and it’s definitely going to fit because the skirt is an A-line – it has an A shape rather than going straigt down.  Pair the dress with heels and a fun colored bag.

I’ve shown virtually here a sweater option for pears to wear over a dress.  Notice how short the sweater is.  I’m stopping the cardigan at her smallest part (above the waist)in order to emphasize it. If you’re a pair shape and you wear a regular length cardigan over an outfit, make sure it’s fitted and stops at the top of the hip.
.

Pear Shape Jeans Outfit

Pear Shape Jeans Outfit

Virtual Pear Shape Outfit #2 is a basic jeans and t-shirt look; I forgot to give her shoes. :(

What pears need to look for here are shirts that stop at the hip, that show your curves rather than hide it, jeans with a straight wider leg to balance your lower body and a waistband that stops at your widest part.

Any piece of clothing that goes over your hips will emphasize them; it may seem counter intuitive, but by stopping things at your widest part you trick the eye, which is exactly what you want as someone who is bottom heavy.

The same concept applies with jeans – if your widest part is your hips, that’s where your waistband should go; usually just below your belly button.  If you go with jeans that stop above your widest part, rather than emphasizing your small waist, it makes your hips look larger.

Most jeans styles have a “bootcut” or a “flare” leg.  Pear shapes should for a pair of jeans with “trouser” style or “wide leg” if you can.  If you can’t, look for a pair that have a minimum of tapering at the knee.  The more you taper, the more you emphasize what’s above and below.

Here are some reasonably priced real life options for this type of jean/t-shirt pear outfit.

Spring Casual for a Pear

Spring Casual for a Pear

Spring Casual for a Pear by din2quared featuring Old Navy jackets

Again, this is a really simple outfit to pull together, mix and match and add to with clothing from your closet.  It can be dressed up or down with a few changes, so it will take you from the grocery store out to dinner.

Both t-shirts are from the Gap – the one on top has a strong color and an open neckline to be the primary focus, and then I layered a plain gray long sleeve t with a slightly more open crew neck under it.  Crew necks that are right up against the neck will make you look bustier.

The jeans are a drawstring trouser from Old Navy.  Rebecca appeared to be in between sizes, so a drawstring jean could help avoid a tailoring charge (jeans can be tailored!).  Just be careful not to go for an elastic waistband on pants; it may seem like an easy fix, but elastic waistbands don’t flatter anyone.

These jeans are more lightweight; for a a dressier look, choose a heavier, darker trouser jean.

I’ve pulled together the outfit with an adorable tote bag on sale at Luna Boston, a trench coat from Old Navy and Cole Haan Wedges at Zappos. A tote bag, trench coat and comfy flats are three accessories that will take you everywhere

The Cole-Haan wedge shoes are the splurge item here at over $100, but as I’ve said before don’t skimp on shoes.  Cheap shoes won’t last, they won’t support your feet, ankles, hips or knees and you’ll wind up spending the same amount of money on several pairs versus one.  Cole Haan has an entire line that’s made with Nike Air technology.  Looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker.

I created two more virtual pear style outfit variations: one good, one bad.  Look what happens if you pair dressy jeans and the tote with a cute blouse for casual Friday or dinner with friends here.  On the other hand, look what happens if you put a pear shape in an over-sized, too long top.

.

Pear Shape Date Outfit

Pear Shape Date Outfit

This is one more outfit type option for Rebecca or any of you pear shapes out there.

What’s funny is that I put this outfit together right after I bought my dress, and the two dresses are very similar styles.  Several things are working together to slim and balance; if you look carefully you can see that there’s actually a wide waistband that starts just higher than her natural waist  – this draws the eye up, and the slightly rounded shape of the skirt hides the hips. But by wearing a dress, all one piece, the effect is not to break up the body, which is almost always slimming.

Continuing the monochromatic theme, she’s wearing black tights with black heels, and then I kept all her accessories within the same color family: (Ish. i didn’t have tons to work with.) A red wrap, a red necklace, and a burgundy clutch.

Donna Ricco Sleeveless Bubble Dress, $178 @Nordstrom

For a similar dress look, try this Donna Ricco bubble dress from Nordstrom.  It’s a little fancier than what I showed, but it’ll be a classic wardrobe addition.

.

None of these styles are terribly complicated once you understand your body and its proportions.  Bring a digital camera with you shopping and take pictures of outfits, or do it when you get home.  Once you start working with some basic structure, you’ll understand what clothes do to your body, and gain more confidence.

Pr0nstars, often the best way to stretch your closet is by experimenting a little.  Remember when you were little and played dress up?  Take some time to pull things out of your closet, put them together in new and scary ways and take pictures.  See what works.

Monday I had a fancy work conference to attend; not only were my suit pants in need of dry cleaning, but they’re in need of me losing this winter weight. :p  Which was how I created my Outfit of the Day.

Here are the pieces that I worked with.  I started with my new Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, bought on sale at Cusp.  My normal instinct would be to put a cardigan over a dress, so I didn’t do that.  Instead, I pulled out my charcoal gray wool crepe suit jacket from J. Crew

A suit jacket in a neutral color can go with almost anything: pants, jeans, a skirt and even a dress apparently.  I tried it because I knew the colors would work well together (pink and gray were so ’80s), and the suit jacket was fitted.  A boxy suit jacket would have overwhelmed the dress.

I’ve been all about grey tights; they’re more fun than black, but don’t take you too far outside your comfort zone.  These tights were more of a dove grey; I stayed in the same color family, just mixed shades.  For instance, I could have put a bright pink cardigan over the light pink dress.

The shoes are Nordstrom’s Biala brand, and are actually a burgundy patent leather, but I couldn’t get a picture of that.  Again, red/pink is in the same color family. The bag is my cheery new post-conference treat: a Dooney Bourke , which was 30% off.

I have to share with you the story of this Laundry trench coat.  If you’re a regular pr0n addict, you know I’ve been searching high and low for a new spring coat; I haven’t had once since I lost a bunch of weight.  I’d looked everywhere online and hadn’t found anything I like.

So this past weekend, Pr0nMom and I went to our local Giga-Mall.  Out of default we started at Bloomingdales.  Pickings were slim, but I spotted two trenches; one was white, and you know I am not the type of person to buy white things; the other was this one.

I tried it on, and Pr0n Mom and I both laughed, because it was perfect and completely in budget.  When does that ever happen? Anyway, that’s the story of my new coat.

Finally, since I wanted to keep the outfit from looking too conservative, I put on my chunky double-strand necklace from Banana Republic, bought a few months ago.

The necklace didn’t cost more than $40 or $50 and it’s been a great investment since it goes with everything.

I hope you’ll agree that this turned out to be a chic, fun way to look professional, but show a lot of personality.

Plus I didn’t buy anything specifically for this occasion.  Everything that I wore here I’ve already worn lots of times, or I expect to wear lots of times.

Any questions before class is dismissed?

Thanks for reading, my little  salmonella contaminated pr0n pistachios.

It was good for me; tell me, was it good for you?
