Dresses for Your Body Type: The Petite Apple

If you’re petite, 5’4″ and under, dressing well, particularly in skirts or dresses, can be a challenge.  And if you’re apple shaped – top heavy, a bit lumpy in the middle, with smashing legs-  it can be far too easy to wind up looking like a big lump.

My BFF K rang me up recently, in need of a dress to take her through a few occasions, with about $150 to spend.  Her challenge, proves that anyone with any body shape can find what they need and still be fashionable, and in budget.  K is a pretty average petite apple, but she has one specific need: long sleeves to cover a tattoo.

MaxStudio.com - SHIRRED DRESS, $138

MaxStudio.com - SHIRRED DRESS, $138

What I went looking for in a dress to flatter K, and would for any petite apple are three things: 1) Either an empire or a dropped waist dress – a true waist will call attention to her tummy.

2) A loose fit in front. If you’re doing two pieces do not tuck in your blouse.  You need it to cover anything extra between your waist and hips.

3) A hem length at or above the knee. For a petite, anything below the knee is going to make you look overwhelmed and dumpy.  In a sense you’re lucky: skirts that might be too short on a taller woman can be an appropriate length for you.

.

When I think floaty dresses, I think Max Studio.com.  This shirred, tuxedo front dress will flatter a larger chest, cover arms, and show off legs, with no one will be the wiser to anything you don’t want to show around your stomach.

An open neckline will balance a larger chest – and most importantly, the chest is just decorative not stretchy.  If you have a large chest, you don’t want anything that’s going to stretch over it.  This is ruffles, not elastic.  Its conservative enough for a business dinner, and formal enough for a wedding.

Generra Tunic Dress

Generra Tunic Dress, 6pm.com, $178

.
This tunic dress from Generra at 6pm.com is slightly over budget, and a similar style to the first.  But since it’s not quite as floaty and a little more contemporary, it’s a nice comparison.

Made out of silk and cotton, it’s a great deal at 30% off the original price.  Notice that the basic shape is the same as the first dress: long sleeves, open neck and straight from gathers at the chest.

It looks mid-thigh on the mannequin, but will likely hit lower on a shorter woman.  The contemporary style is a little more casual, but it can easily be dressed up with accessories, and the silk will help it look dressier.

.

PAROSH Shirt Dress from YOOX, $155

PAROSH Shirt Dress from YOOX, $155

I adore everything about this next dress at Yoox.  From the silver color, to the rough silk fabric, to the modern shirt-dress cut.

It’s a winner in my book, and it’s selling out fast. It’s not a completely long sleeve, but on a petite it should be long enough to get the job done.  Worst case you could put a sheer long sleeve tee underneath

This particular dress could be very flattering for all shapes:  on an apple it’s going to flatter a tummy and show off your great legs.

Even pear shapes or hourglasses could find this accommodating to hiding a hip-y area while flattering a waist – or it could be too tight around the bottom and have no shape around the waist.  You’d just have to try it on.

.

Diane Von Furstenburg - Short dress, $195 on YOOX

Diane Von Furstenburg - Short dress, $195 on YOOX

I don’t know what it is that’s got me showing all blue dresses, but that’s just what I’ve been finding.  This Diane von Furstenberg short dress is different from the others I’ve shown, because it has a dropped waist.

Ideally the sash will hit around the hips, and the dress will be looser everywhere else.  For you apple shapes with your flat tushes and nice legs, by all means try this type of dress.

A lightweight cashmere dress such as this one is virtually seasonless: just put a long sleeved t-shirt and tights underneath it when the weather gets chilly.

.

Mixie "Maggie" Dress at Green Apple, $150

Mixie "Maggie" Dress at Green Apple, $150

I finally found a pop of color at Green Apple, this neat site that showcases new and unique designers.  Mixie is a local Orange County, California designer.

“Maggie” is made out of Modal, which is a slightly more casual looking fabric, but between the color and the style of the dress, I think it’s sufficient for a slightly dressy occasion.

At 36″ long, it could be a touch long to be in proportion, but if you can wear a pair of nice 3″ heels with it, that will adjust accordingly, or you can get it hemmed.  A good tailor is your friend.

Eve Gravel Air Dress at Mudshark Streetwear, $165.60

Eve Gravel Air Dress at Mudshark Streetwear, $165.60

Pr0n stars, I searched high, low and everywhere in between to fine just one more fabulous dress for all of you.  I found it at Mudshark Streetwear, a fabulous online Canadian retailer with a simply enormous selection of unique, reasonably priced clothes, much of it eco-friendly.

I absolutely love the mix of ’80s and ’60s style in their Gravel Air Dress.  The top is a raglan sleeve – it’s hard to tell whether or not it’ll stay on both shoulders.  If not, wear a cami underneath, or have a tailor put one of those lingerie bra buttons in.

The slightly lowered waist has a matching belt with a pop of white button, and then attaches to an above-the-knee slightly A-line skirt with white front pockets.  It’s all together in a stand-out indigo color.  For a dress that matches your attitude, look no further.  Your budget will barely stretch at $165.60.

.
I hope this post has shown you a variety of styles that will work for your body type.  I love dresses because of their ease and flexibility.  It’s so easy to make them different by putting on a blazer or sweater or different jewelry or hose or tights.  K, I hope there’s something here for you. :)

Totally Organic Talum Skirt, Greenloop, $29.99, Sz.8

Totally Organic Talum Skirt, Greenloop, $29.99, Sz.8

Any fashionista worth their debit card will tell you their favorite four letter word is “sale”. But never let it be said that we fashionistas are not without are ethics or values.

We recycle, drive hybrids or use car-sharing and public transportation, take reusable bags to go grocery shopping and buy eco-friendly products and clothing!  So if we can combine a sale with being ethically responsible?  Genius!

Greenloop, a fabulous eco-fashion site, is have a blowout sale, with all sale items under $30.  No, really.  Sizes and colors are really limited, but with luck you can snag an unreal deal.  I’ve pulled together my favorites for you, my favorite pr0n parsley.

Strike while the iron is hot, act now supplies are limited and lots of other phrases that mean do something really really soon. Seriously, my favorites keep selling out before I can even blog them.

.

Size 8’s should jump at the chance to pick up this Truly Organic Talum skirt which normally sells for $73.50.  It’s made out of 100% organic cotton twill with 100% natural dyes.

The skirt is lined in soft cotton poplin, and then they’ve added rouching and ties to the sides so you can play with the skirt and make it unique every time.  It’s shown here in wine, but selling in gray.  Wear this skirt three seasons out of the year.

If it was me, I’d snag these vegan “Hello” shoes by Melissa to wear with the skirt, or just about anything else.

Sizes 6, 7 & 8 save $66 on these Mary-Janes with a 3″ gold heel, & plaid detail on the button.  “Hello” is faux-velvet with a velcro closure.

Loomstate Hawkeye Jacket, Greenloop, $29.99

Loomstate Hawkeye Jacket, Greenloop, $29.99

Men who wear a size x-large, I’m calling your name!  If you don’t buy this Loomstate “Hawkeye” jacket (or chicks, if you don’t buy it for your guy), I will personally reach through this computer and smack you!

You’re getting a hooded, mid-weight anorak jacket that was originally $275, for $29.99.  If I felt like doing the math I would tell you that’s a very large percent off!

Here’s the low-down: easy, relaxed fit, drawstring at waist and hood, zip + snap front, four front snap flap pockets, removable, quilted inside vest, made from 82% organic cotton and 18% decycled polyester, “in China – with respect”.

This is one nice jacket.  So stop buying soy lattes for a couple of weeks and get yourself a fancy new jacket.  And then call your blogger – she’s single!

Loomstate Paracaribou T_Shirt, Greenloop $24.99, sz. small

Loomstate Paracaribou T_Shirt, Greenloop $24.99, sz. small

Loomstate also has a handful of really nice quality t-shirts for $19.99 – $24.99, including this organic cotton “Paracaribou” tee; they’re fair-trade compliant and made in Peru.

If you read my infrequent menswear posts, you know I’m a fan of nice t-shirts worn on their own, or layered.  I’d pick up a few of these, if not all, considering they normally sell for $60-65.

EcoSkin Alexandrite Dress, $29.99, Greenloop, Sz. L

EcoSkin Alexandrite Dress, $29.99, Greenloop, Sz. L

.

Lest you think eco-fashion is all about t-shirts and jackets, feast your eyes on EcoSkin’s Bamboo & Tencel “Alexandrite” dress.  Good luck finding another dress this fashion forward, this eco-friendly at this price.

“Alexandrite” definitely has a Greco-Roman feel with its one shoulder flutter sleeve, and diagonal bottom hem.  It ties on the side of the waist, and is fitted through the bust, with a looser drape on the bottom.

This dress is available as of this writing in a large. That’s unusual for this sale, which has a lot of smaller sizes left over; so if this makes your heart go pitter-pat (and it should when you hear it was originally $167), make with the clicky and go get it.  We’ll be here when you get back. :)

.

Sublet bamboo and organic cotton dress, Greenloop, $280

Sublet bamboo and organic cotton dress, Greenloop, $280

For the last product today, I’m going to tempt you into Greenloop’s regular priced items with a dress I simply can’t not show you!

I’m absolutely enamored with the styling of “Catherine”, made by Sublet in bamboo and organic cotton in the U.S.A.

Catherine has sweet, pleated tulip sleeves, a cross over v-neckline, pleated & gathered bodice, black tape side detail, with a full coverage back.  It comes in “Misty”, a dreamy lilac/grey.

Yes, it’s $280, but it can compete with any designer dress of that price point, and you’ll be a lot more comfortable, and a lot more satisfied with your purchase.

I know some of you out there spend that kind of money, why not spend it on this?  Sizes medium and large at the moment.

.
Pr0n stars, I really hope you’re able to scamper over to Greenloop before all the good sales are gone and get some for yourself.  If not, at least take a look around and see what’s over there.  There’s always another sale waiting around the bend.

Until next time, it was good for me.  Tell me, was it good for you?

Happy Pr0niversary Sales!

Happy Pr0niversary to meeee!  And you!  And us!  It’s a few days late, but we’ve been shopping together for two whole months now!  It seems like just yesterday that this blog was just a gleam in my eye.  They grow up so fast.  To celebrate, I’m pulling together every sale, sales code, and sample sale invite in my arsenal and giving them all to you.  I didn’t have time to wrap them all.

Smocked Detail Dress, 32, $45.73

Smocked Detail Dress, £32/ $45.73 at Simply Be

It wouldn’t be a Pr0niversary without mentioning the very special offer we have in conjunction with Simply Yours and Simply Be.

Ignore the first-time buyer’s offer at checkout and use our exclusive code: KLUY4 for 20% off plus size fashion, lingerie, footwear and shapewear – good through April 15.

I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t show you this cream colored smocked cotton dress, with brown applique on it.  Usually I’m not a fan of gladiator sandals, but I love the styling here.  The dress is all cotton with cotton lining, sizes 14-32.

If you need a bright, colorful tote for spring do not wait to pick up this red Narraganset Quinn.

.

Thanks to my pal Grechen over at Grechens Codes, I found out about a 20% discount at American Apparel.  One thing I appreciate AA for is their committment to a fair job at a fair wage with fair benefits; that’s a rarity in the garment industry.

American Cotton Spandex Jersey Yoga Pant, $28

American Cotton Spandex Jersey Yoga Pant, $28

As I’ve mentioned before, even certain so-called “cruelty-free” companies are not especially forthcoming about their production, other than to say they’re not made in sweatshops.

Anyway, if you don’t mind their slightly unsavory ad campaigns, use code MISSYOU09 to take 20% off.

I’m a fan of their yoga/workout clothing, such as their cotton/spandex yoga pants. Like most of their clothing, they come in several different colors.  Like pink!

Banana Republic Silk Ruffle Dress, $67.99

Now through March 29th (so get cracking), code EXTRA20 will save you an extra 20% off sales items at Banana Republic, where prices are generally reasonable anyway.

Your blogger highly recommends trying this lavender silk ruffle dress for spring.  It’s such a classic shape and feel; almost 1940’s, and the color is quite flattering.

Just pay mind that the skirt may be clingy.  Spanx are your friend. You want to be smooooooooth.

.

Finally, I have a code for 25% off one regularly priced item Greenloop, which is filled with lovely organic and eco-friendly clothing, such as these to die for red faux-felt Cherub Pumps by Beyond Skin.

Tulle Cardigan with Ruffle
Tulle Cardigan with Ruffle

I think I’ve shown you one thing from Tulle before, but I definitely haven’t shown you anything from their men’s side, Cloth Logic.

Right now, everything from both sites’ Spring I collection is 40% off.  Tulle has adorable, feminine clothing with a retro feel, like this Cardigan with Ruffle.  It’s only $36.00 and goes up to an XL in colors Scarlet and Lagoon.

I have to warn you that I just looked at the size chart and they are tiny.  I almost think this has to be some sort of a misprint or it’s meant to be a Juniors line, or maybe it varies by article.  An XL appears to be a 4/6?  Do look carefully pr0n addicts.

.

Cloth Logic Zip Up Sweater

Cloth Logic Zip Up Sweater

Selection is limited over at Cloth Logic, but I’m a fan of this Zip Up Sweater with striped sleeves for $54.  This doesn’t appear to have a size chart at all.  Check the return policy and buy with caution.

Robert Rodriguez Kimono Top, ShopBop $200.20

Robert Rodriguez Kimono Top, ShopBop $200.20

ShopBop is having a spring sale: “Buy now, Wear now”.   Neither the selection nor the prices inspired me, but I did find a few gems, including this fashion forward kimono top by Robert Rodriguez.

Kimono tops are a bit of a throwback to the ’80s, but trust me, there were worse trends back then.  This particular top comes in mild dahlia, and black charmeuse.  I’d really like to see this on someone.

Now comes the really fun stuff – where if you’re lucky and act quickly, you can get unheard of deals on brands from Valentino to Hanky Panky, from Theory to Porridge, from Burberry Prosum to Shoshanna.

A while back we talked about Sample Sales.  Today I’m going to show you all my favorite sites.  Most have brand “boutiques” that open for a few days.  They usually require an invitation from another member, so you tell two friends and she tells two friends and so on.

With some sites you get a credit for every friend who joins, with some for the first purchase they make, and with some – both.  Hi, I’m Dinsquared and I’m your friend. :)

Shoshanna Quilted Shift Dress at Rue La La

Shoshanna Quilted Shift Dress at Rue La La

My absolute favorite is Rue La La.  Every day at 11:00 a.m. EST two or three new brand boutiques open.

Get there early.  Prices are crazy low and items sell out in the blink of an eye.

For instance, at their Final Sale this $395 quilted Shoshanna shift could have been yours for $99.  No lie.

I can’t generate one code or link to share, so if you’re interested just leave a comment on this post and be sure to include your email address.  If you prefer, just email me directly: shoppingpr0n@gmail.com.

Just make with the clicky, and happy pr0n!

Whew!  After all that partying I’m tired!  Bringing you all these fabulous steals and deals was worth it, though.  You’re my pr0n stars after all.

BETSY + IYA JEWELRY SALE!!!

Love Coin Earrings

Big Shameless Love Earrings $20!

Hello my little pr0n pop-tarts!  Have you ever looked at a clothing or accessories website longingly and thought, “Wow…I really love this stuff.  But I just have other things I need to do with my money right now?”

It’s not that their prices are unreasonable in the least, but somehow your mind just…strays from that little clicky button.   That’s how I’ve been feeling about Betsy and Iya Jewelry.

Which makes the following information both good and bad news: Sunday was Betsy’s FIRST anniversary as Betsy and Iya Jewelry (well, that’s completely good news). To celebrate, she’s giving 20% off to anyone who puts a favorite quote or favorite book in the “message to seller” section before checkout.

The earrings above me (above here) are real vintage “Love” coins.  I don’t know where Betsy finds this stuff, but I’m fascinated by everything she uses.  I don’t know if the love is shameless or the earrings are or both (never mind: it’s from the Shameless Love Collection), and I don’t care; her earrings are seriously making me jones to have my ears re-pierced.  Damn you, Betsy!

Last time I showed you the Norrmisima Black Lacy Racy Earrings; this time I’m showing you The Louise Silver Pretties Earrings.

Louise Silver Pretties Earrings, $31.20

Louise Silver Pretties Earrings, $31.20

Seriously, people I’m throwing a virtual temper tantrum right now because I love silver and would so totally rock these earrings with my platinum blonde bob.  But my ear holes closed up. *SOBS*

Enough about my needs; a lot of these pieces are one-of-a-kind, or at least no two are exactly alike, because they’re made out of old silver plate-like filigree hunks.  So if you want these, and you should, don’t wait.

.

Grand Key Necklace, $39.20

Grand Key Necklace, $39.20

Let’s go back to my needs for a minute. I’m buying something; you don’t throw 20% off at girl and expect her to waste it.  But I’m really torn.  Option 1 on the right is the Grand Key Necklace.

I love the asymmetry and how graceful it looks on the model’s neck.  With 20% off, it’s $39.20.

Asymmetrical Square Copper Girl Necklace

Asymmetrical Square Copper Girl Necklace, $36

On the left is Option Two: the Asymmetrical Copper Girl Necklace.  Take 20% off and it’s $36.

Again, the asymmetry calls to me, as does the delicateness (is that a word?).  Quoting from Betsy’s website: The centerpiece is antique victorian gothic copper, which measures 28mm. There are three subtle, delicate sterling silver chains linked to one silver gunmetal chain. The back is a sterling silver clasp handcrafted by me that hooks into a unique hook of chain. The necklace extends farthest to about 20″ .

If any of you buys one of these before I make up my mind, I will cut you.  Nicely, of course.  What do you think, pr0n stars?

Night Owl Blue Star Necklace at Betsy and Iya.com, $44

Night Owl Blue Star Necklace at Betsy and Iya.com, $44

Let me share a few more pieces of jewelry from her other collections.  From Betsy’s “Color Blasting Vintage” collection, I pulled her Night Owl, Blue Star necklace.

This is how you accessorize – with one fantastic stand-out piece changing the entire look and feel of an outfit.

A royal blue vintage owl and vintage robin’s egg blue fillagree ball is attached to ribbon, sterling silver, aluminum, and gunmetal chains.

The way Betsy layers her chains is one of the unique and hallmark features of her jewelry collection.

i am your letter dog necklace $68.80

i am your letter dog necklace $68.80

.

Finally, you will truly have a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry if you order from the i am your dog collection.

A ball chain is attached to a thick silver dog tag.  Tell Betsy what letter or letters you want on it and she’ll engrave, oxidize and abuse.

A handmade item like this one is well worth the $68.80.  You won’t find anything this special or lovingly made in stores.

Please head over to Betsy’s etsy store, and Betsy’s blog (which is also great) and show her some Shopping Pr0n love.  And take my poll!

I have to scurry to the gym, my little pizza rolls.  One last thing!  There is no pay for play here on Shopping Pr0n.  Trust me, Betsy hasn’t given me a darn thing for writing these posts! :D  If I say I love it, I love it.

Until next time, it was ever so good for me; tell me: was it good for you?

Recession Pr0n

Hi Pr0nsters, I’m slowly recovering from my flu hell, and figured if I was sitting on my couch anyway, I’d bring you some lovely bright pr0n, all under $100! In today’s post I have the most divine purple top you’ve ever seen, a turquoise knotted shirt up to 3X, an organic cami and pantie set from Etsy, and a bright blue button down men’s shirt just to name a few. Let’s dive in.

.

$79.00

$79.00 by Shar Dann

I’ve been looking for an excuse to show you this top since I found it…which was a while ago.  Via SmashingDarling.com, which specializes in indie designers, Shar Dann is hand making this absolute piece of art.  It’s made out of Modal/Cotton/Lycra, with a Silk applique.

The last time I featured SmashingDarling was during Eco Friendly Pr0n, when I showed you designer Gina Michelle and her bamboo dresses.

I’m in awe of how this top is gathered and sewn; I can’t believe it isn’t twice the price it is. This is purple; it’s also available in Berry and Black, up to XL, which is a size 16.  I’m tempted to find a place for it in my own wardrobe.

.

If you’re a devoted Pr0nista,  you know by now that I believe good fashion has so much to do with detail.  A twist on a simple design can make a boring shirt exciting. For example this turquoise knotted front top from Missphit.

$36 at Missphit

$36 at Missphit

For only $36 my fuller figure pr0n friends can have this lovely turquoise top up to a size 3x.  What’s so great about the shape of this top is that it’s going to work on you whether you have a waistline or not.

The v-neck is going to draw the eye down and create the illusion of a longer/slimmer neck. Then it knots in every woman’s smallest place: right under the bust.

If you have a little waist, this will just make it look better, and if you don’t, this will just hide your tummy and make it seem like you have one.

Wear it with khakis or a casual skirt or jeans and a pair of heels, and accessorize with a great necklace or a pair of dangly earrings…

.

…and take with you this adorable fuchsia (I spell that wrong every single time) clutch from Lina Pelle that I found on sale at Luna Boston.

(Surprisingly, the last Luna Boston bag I showed you is still available. Just not under $100.)

Most of what’s over at Luna is so very very pr0nish, including Linea Pelle, which is a luxury leather line, so finding this on sale is a true find.  As I’m sure you can imagine, it’s available in limited quantities – especially when you see the zebra striped lining. Couldn’t you just die?

Luna says “Danielle” is a soft buttery leather with funky silver-tone hardware, and measures 11.5″w x 6.5″h x 1″d – enough for your cellphone, ID/money case, lipstick and condoms. (I’m just saying. A true pr0nista protects herself.)

.

Accessories are so important, aren’t they, dumplings? I like to accessorize with a lovely man on my arm.  Maybe he’s even wearing this aqua blue-with white squares “Chillin Villian” shirt?

In my travels I’ve learned that apparently men aren’t supposed to wear bright colors.  No wonder men dress poorly; they’re bored witless!

Luckily Tobi has this shirt for you.  They’re calling it green; I say aqua blue.  Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe.  What matters is that it’s 100% cotton, made in India, and fits true to size up to an XL.  The gentleman to my right is wearing a large; you can see his measurements by clicking on the picture.

For crisp, cool summer dresses, you can find me trolling the racks at Anthropologie, and I’ll be trying on the Missouri Primrose Shift.

In cobalt blue cotton, with a cotton lining and silk flowers climbing up the side, where won’t you go in this dress?

Put it on with a pair of casual sandals during the day, and change into a dressier pair at night with a delicate bracelet and a cardigan – maybe in red or green.

Its available in regular or petite sizes 2-12 still! Go on – time’s a wasting!

Cami $24, Hipster Panties $14

Cami $24, Hipster Panties $14

To stay cool and comfy, slide into this organic cotton cami/pantie set that Louella Bloom sells on Etsy.

I’ve shown them here in plum, but they’re also available (on sale) in yellow, as well as gray, black, and cream, also as a thong, panti and nightie.

The best part to me is that they’re tagless! If you have sensitive skin like your dear blogger, this should be music to your ears.

For something a bit fancier, see the organic silk set I had, also in Eco Pr0n.

Lovely pron friends, there is a time and a place for plaid. That place is not on your man’s shorts or pants.  It is, however on his sneakers.

These raspberry/blue plaid converses are scrumptious and perfectly appropriate with a pair of easy fitting shorts or jeans or khakis.

You can even wear it with something like the blue and white shirt above, just don’t go crazy. Keep it to one additional color, and you’ll be fine.

.

Finally, just as I started with something I needed an excuse to share, I’m going to end with the same. (Really this whole blog is just an excuse to share things I like, but who’s asking?)

Was $280, now $84

Was $280, now $84

I adore Milly New York. I’d roll around in her line if it could (This is pr0n after all.)  The colors she uses, combined with the classic, feminine shapes, attention to detail, quality fabrics and slight retro winks make this blogger’s heart go pitter-pat.

This red button pleat shirt from Shop Twigs is a prime example. If you lean in a bit,  you can see the jacquard pattern woven into the Italian wool.

It’s 95% wool with a 100% silk lining, and it falls 19″ from the natural waist.  Just imagine it with gray tights and a pair of flat knee-high boots (like these Bandolinos $89.95!).

The front pleat is known as a reverse pleat (because it’s reversed, see?).  Normally pleats = bad; in this case, pleats = good.   The skirt is made in NY and only available in sizes 4,6,8, but what a deal you’re getting! Have I really not shown you any Milly yet? Shame on me!

I hope you found something today to add to your closet.  If not, just wait a day or two; there’ll be more! Don’t forget, every Monday is now a new edition of Pr0n Plus!

As always, it was good for me; tell me, was it good for you?

Pr0n Plus: Presidents’ Day Edition

Welcome to another edition of Pr0n Plus.  It’s a pr0n packed post, so let’s dive right in.  In this week’s edition, I’m going to show you a stunning pair of handmade vegetarian pumps up to a size 11,  plus size bikinis from Type Z,  and a Rockabilly trousers/sweater combo – just to name a few!

.

Did I mention a stunning pair of handmade vegetarian pumps? Would I lie to you? Sui Generis is an offshoot of brand Beyond Skin.  Both lines are exquisite, ethical footwear; the company is based out of, and makes their shoes in the UK.

These are made out of hemp with a man-made sole and faux patent metallic piping and a 4″ heel.  Beyond Skins’ packaging is recycled or made from sustainable materials, and vegetable based ink.  A percentage of the company’s profits go to ethical charities.

If you have an extra $645.95 to throw at a pair of shoes, Endless.com will throw in free shipping.  And if you do, send pictures!

.

.I

I feel a bit bad (not that bad) for starting off with $600 shoes; as an apology, I’ve brought you tan patent leather button nose pumps from Type Z.  Also in a 4″ heel, you can have these in a slightly less ethical tan or black patent leather, and brown or red leather.

These cuties have a lightly padded footbed and white contrast stitching; they may run about 1/2 a size larger than marked, which is nice since they go up to a size 10W, so that’s like a 10.5, right? Sort of like Daylight Savings time in a shoe.

They’re available with free shipping at Zappos.com.

.

.

Interestingly, the next item is also from Type Z.  I have two (technically 3) adorable bikinis for you, also at Zappos.  I’ll see what I can find out about the brand for you next time, my little pr0n pumpkins.

What I love about these styles are halter tops, the moderate seat coverage, and the overall styling. It’s so hard to find plus sized swimwear that’s youthful!  The first one is in solid navy (always flattering), sizes 16 and 24; it’s also available in non-plus sizes, XS, M and Large.

Unfortunately it is sold as a set, rather than as separates, so you have to be the same size on top and bottom. Fortunately, the top has adjustable strap, and it’s $75 with free overnight shipping.

.

.

The other style looks the same, but is slightly different.  Sarah comes in a red floral, and an orange multi-stripe. Both the back and neck are adjustable, and the bottom has a low rise (it’s shorter from crotch to waist.  I dislike that word: ‘crotch’.) and moderate seat coverage.

It’s a shame that the plus size version of this is more than the under-14 sizes (Two way adjustable straps? Really? Hmm…), but it’s less than a $4.00 difference.  Sizes 16-18 are $71.10, still with free overnight shipping.

.

You know what else is red?  These “Greta” lipstick red wide leg trousers from Collectif, which has tons of vintage, retro and rockabilly clothing in a wide range of sizes.

They do have a tendency to run out of sizes, but the good news is that means the products aren’t mass produced!  You can always email them to find out when and if a particular product is coming back in stock (and they do).

Currently they have an 8 & 10 in black, and um…no red. :( But I wanted you to see them anyway, because I never show you lovely pr0n people trousers and they will come back in stock. This is a UK store, and most products go up to a UK 20 or 22, so a U.S. 18-20ish.

Greta is £40 or about $58 USD, they’re showing it with the “Jo” cardigan – so cute in a round neck black sweater, with red cherry appliques on both sides! £30, or about $43, U.S.  Collectif will ship worldwide, starting at £8 or about $11.50.  Come back soon Greta and Jo (please?) !

.

.

While you wait, how a about this Frill Front Contrast Skirt Dress over at SimplyBe? I love this concept: a dress that looks like a skirt and a dress; black on the bottom, and a ruffled white sleeveless top with black buttons running down the front.

Even better, this is 100% cotton and machine washable.  The skirt has front pleats, hits just above the knee, and stops around your natural waist – maybe a drop higher.

This should be a very forgiving and flattering style. Whether you’re straight or curvy, this dress should work pretty well on you.  It’s particularly good if you’re too curvy to normally wear skirts (like your dear blogger) but love the look). Oh, the skirt has 4% elastyne in it for stretch, and the whole thing can be yours for £40 or about $58. A total steal!

Just a reminder that Simply Be does not ship to the U.S. yet, so if you need this in sizes 14-32, make friends with someone here or elsewhere in the U.K. They don’t bite unless you ask. :)

.

If you need a dress and have a little more money to invest, check out this black 100% wool David Meister belted jersey sheath dress.   Classic dresses don’t get much better than this: pleated scoop neckline, wool jersey sheath dress, with a skinny patent leather belt at your natural waist and cap sleeves.

It’s 43.5″ from shoulder to hem, and form-fitting at the bust and hip.  This is just such a perfect way to show off your figure at work or at night; it will last you for years.

As I said, this is an investment in your wardrobe, but Nordstrom guarantees their price, and will match anyone else’s. Nordy’s generally has A+ customer service! Plus if you shop there they sometimes have a live piano player.  I’m just saying.

.

Lucky for you, I found a very similar style for less than half the price back at Zappos.com (Aren’t you lucky?). Lee by Serena is a 100% cotton dress with white contrast stitching and front skirt pleats.

The seaming is going to create the illusion of curves if you don’t have them, the pleats will give the skirt a little style and shape, and the back pleat is great for moving and sitting…which most people like to do.

The Serena is 1/2″ longer than the David Meister and hand washable (since it’s cotton). At $83 with free overnight shipping it’s not a bad alternative in the least.   Any tailor could give this a quick nip, tuck and hem if you find the fit isn’t quite what you’d like, and it would still be less than $258.  But I think it’s interesting to compare the two and see what a $100 dress looks like versus a $250 dress.

I think the David Meister is still probably overpriced, but keep in mind the styling and the fabric.  That’s why I always say that pr0n is about quality, fabric and fit. (I really do say that!) Also check out the iGigi.com – their Gabriella Contrast Trim dress has a similar feel.

T.

Technically, Torrid is the plus-size little sister to Hot Topic, and the quality isn’t as high as I usually like.  But I really liked their pants when I was plus-size for one very specific reason – they’re low-rise.

Because they’re a “junior cut”, if you carry your weight in your lower body and don’t need the tummy room that most plus-size pants have, Torrid might be a godsend for you, as they were for me. They were practically the only pants I could wear at the time.

Sometimes pr0n is getting what you need, and that’s these super wide leg gray cuffed trousers.  They’ve got two front pockets, belt loops, cuffed hems, and 5% spandex.  They should hit around your hip.  If that’s the widest part of you, that’s where your pants should hit.  Any higher and they’re going to make you look wider.  So: $52, machine washable, sizes 12 (also helpful)-26

.
Is it me or has this post been lacking in color? Let’s change that with a pop of color in a sheer summer pink Berto shirt from PAS (the same people who made that hott dress from last week) at Pink Marzipan.

The shirt is sheer (duh), so you’ll need a cami underneath it (just like in the pic), but it’s a fun way to play with an outfit.  It’s nice that the shirt is machine washable (delicate cycle in a wash-bag), even though it’s 40% silk (60% polyester).

You could put this under a suit, or with a cotton skirt; it’s collared with a front buttons to just past the empire waist, princess seams, which are going to help create a waist, and it measures 26.5″ from shoulder to hem.

Pink Marzipan is selling this for £60, or about $86 USD, which is a little pricey, but a really nice shirt that will go with everything.  In the UK shipping is free (for this item) and it appears they ship at least to some places internationally.

.

This last picture goes out to my pal LaynieLink, who loves tights.  WeLoveColors.com is a site that only sells plus-sized tights! Every color and pattern in the rainbow is available here in lots of different types of tights: footless, cotton/lycra, colored fishnet, and on and on.

Call me crazy, but I’m in love with these Zig Zag Checkerboard tights.  While these are a “one-size”, most of the tights are sold in sizes A (4’11”-5’5″ 160-22o lbs) -EE (5’5″-6’0; 320-375 lbs).  Solids are more than appropriate for work; rock out the splash or other patterns with a simple outfit on the weekends (and send me pictures!)

They also sell stuff for men and children, and other accessories (gloves, arm warmers, socks), mostly around $12-18.00.

.

There you have it, lovely pr0n watchers! I hope there was something for everyone in this post. I love comments, and I do take requests, so speak up!

Until then, it was good for me; tell me, was it good for you?

Eco Friendly Pr0n

How are you (well, morning for me) my lovely pr0n readers?  My you are looking lovely today.  You’ve been shopping, haven’t you?  I’m so proud. Today’s post is all about the Fifth Rule of Shopping Pr0n: Put your money where your mouth is.  This relates back to my post on Socially Responsible Pr0n . The point is that if I’m going to go all soapbox ranty about being socially responsible, I should try to integrate it into my life and blog.

cotton/poly/hemp/silk, size L, $96

cotton/poly/hemp/silk, size L, $96

So today, dear pr0n addicts, we will look at Eco Friendly Pr0n!  Natural fibers, sustainable fabrics, organic materials, and vegetarian/vegan products – all that satisfy the pr0nista in you! To my right I have a super comfy tailored hoody, we have proof that you don’t have to give up the shoe lover in you to be ethical, another men’s blazer, and as always – panties!

.

Your dear blogger was beginning to wonder if socially responsible people had something against fashionable shoes (and clothes) when she found The Green Loop .

Oh joy!  Oh rapture!  OH, my credit card!  Just look at these red and black Hazel T-strap pumps from Beyond Skin.  Apparently Beyond Skin has been around since 2001 exclusively creating beautiful, handmade, ethical footwear.

These are made from a faux patent leather (polyurethane) and hemp; I’m glad to see the pot I did in college is being put to a better use.  The website has a tremendous amount of detail about the fabrics and the company.  You should know they were made in Spain and have a 3.75 inch heel.  These puppies will set your feet and your wallet back a cool $285.  Shipping is $5, and Greenloop.com does deliver to some other countries.

.

Feel free to wear those shoes with this Truly Organic Talum Skirt.   What I simply adore about this skirt is the fabrics used to creat a soft, flowy look, and the side rouching.  When rouching first came back into style, like most trends it was horribly overused and misused.

Now that it’s had time to settle down, it’s being used in wonderful ways to add just a hint of interest to an article of clothing, as in this skirt. It’s pleated, rouched and tied on the side (wear it up or down), and hits just below the knee.

Talum is made from 100% fair trade organic cotton , with 100% vegetable, chemical free dyes, and is lined in soft poplin (which is referring to cotton here).  Unless I’m being dense I can’ t see where their products are manufactured, but being certified fair trade should  help in your decision bring home this $73.50 creation.

.

In one of our previous episodes, you all went gaga over this Juicy blazer.  So I am committed to bringing you more menswear for you to go gaga over.  I really like this knit blazer by Same Underneath. First,  it’s half off. It used to be $240 and now it’s $120.  Love it!

It’s a fitted, single knit button blazer – normally single button blazers are tricky, because they have a really low stance ( i.e. where the button is) and it just calls attention to a belly, but the stance is about mid-chest here, which is nice.
There are front flap pockets, 3 button cuffs, and it’s fully lined in contrasting print with a Sameunderneath red button hold stitch on the lapel.

It’s made from: 75% organic cotton; 25% polyester.  The company says it’s “Made in China – with respect”, so make of that what you will or contact the company.

.

Let me tell you, dear pr0n friends, organic/eco-friendly men’s clothing sucks.  In fact, it both sucks and blows that’s how bad it is.  Want jeans?  Sure.  Want t-shirts and hoodies?  Okay.  That’s…about 90% of it.  The article I read said that if men want this stuff they need to be more vocal consumers, so I’m passing that along.

In the meantime, I’m passing along this Nova Bamboo Polo shirt by Salts that I found on Etsy.

From what I can see, it’s made from 100%  organic bamboo (excluding the snaps), which is a sustainable fiber, and is made by the owner in Canada.

If a guy picked me up for a date wearing this with a pair of nice jeans and shoes (the cap can go, really), he’s already one step ahead with me.

So – spend $36 on this shirt (which is also available in red or green), and call me if you’re cute and single!  Salts also has really really cute organic baby clothes.  The clothes are organic, I can’t vouch for the babies. (Little grammar humor there.)

.

I’ll show up in this stunner of en eco friendly bamboo dress by Gina Michele, off Smashing Darling.  When I was putting together this post, I had three Gina Michele dresses in my queue that I could have shown you, her dresses are just so soft looking and well crafted.

Just look at this yellow/mustard v-neck bamboo “Portrait of a Siren” dress.  A deep v-neck, is attached to a pintucked, lined bodice with a braided tie closure in back.  I will say that this is for someone on the smaller end of the bust line, unless you want to put a cami under it, which  is totally acceptable.

It’s got an elastic empire waist – empire waists are great for pear figures because it shows off your upper body and just sort of skims over that whole hippy, thigh, rear area – and a layered skirt.  Made in New York.

.

Before stepping out the door for my date with Mr. Handsome up there, I’ll grab my WAS clutch. Every WAS bag is one of a kind, as it’s made from recycled billboards.  Their stock is constantly changing or you can make your own!  The clutches do have a leather strap, but they’re made entirely in New Zealand.

This one is $125 NZ, which CoinMill.com is kind enough to tell me is only about $67 and change U.S.  Whee!  If I’ve got my NZ lingo down, they appear to ship worldwide.  Thanks WAS!

.

Since my dress is lined, I can slip on this cami and tied bikini set from Adili.com underneath (see how nicely I segeued there).  I’ve been showing you all a lot of “retro” inspired lingerie lately, so I thought this was a nice change.

You can only get this cami/panty set (there’s a different style of panty at Adili) at Adili, but it’s made by Enamore from organic silk (8% silk elastyne for stretch), and made in the UK.

As you can see in the picture, it’s a bit of a small fit, so do check out their size chart.  I believe the sizes are UK, and are available UK 8-14 (US 6-12ish).  They do ship worldwide, and they’ll ship these to you £59 ($92.11 US) for the cami (It’s organic silk!  What do you want?) and £ 37 for this style panty ($57.76 US).  Lots more lingerie at the site if you like the concept, but not ths specific pair.

.

Alas, that’s all  I have for you my darlings! I’m ever so glad you came.  By next week I promise to have lots more eco-friendly pr0n for you.  Until then, I suspect the next edition of ShoppingPron will be Luxury Pr0n! Ooooh! We’ll see how you all like that.  Sometime Friday I suspect, to be followed by the weekly edition of Pr0n Plus.  Time flies when you’re reading pr0n!

As always, it was good for me; tell me: was it good for you?
