Pr0n friends, I am one beat blogger. But I always have energy for you, especially because I got to use my new toy for today’s post: Polyvore.com. Using Polyvore means I get to show you lots more goodies, and who doesn’t like more goodies? Today we’re going to talk about handbags and manbags: all colors, prices and styles. Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Red Hobos

This is a hobo*. These are also hobos. The hobo bag is a curious creature in the wild, in sizes ranging from just enough for a wallet, cell phone and keys, to “Excuse me, Ma’am. Are you hiding an Olsen Twin in there?”
Hobos’ common thread is their slouchy appearance, which can also vary in degree of slouch. The pro to a hobo bag is it’s comfy casualness. It’s nearly always a shoulder bag, and comes in lots of variations.
The con to a hobo bag is that you risk looking like…a hobo. Generally, the more structured a bag, the more “formal” its appearance is; the less structured, the more casual.
The other downside is that you wind up kind of throwing everything into one big smooshy lump. Good luck finding anything in there. Even an Olsen Twin.

Folks, men have stuff just like women. They need to carry their stuff places, just like women. Isn’t it time for a little bag equality among the sexes?
I’m proposing the Bag Equality Act of 2009, whereby all men making under $250,000/year will be given a Man Bag – free!
Until my movement gains momentum however, I urge all men to invest in one with their own funds. Few things say “I’m a grown-up” like a nice bag.
Many of them come big enough for your laptop, they come in all fabrics and styles, and you can collect them for all occasions: work, weekend, dinner – you decide!

Colored Bowlers

Bowler Bags (named because of their similarity to actual bowling bags) are very trendy right now, and for the last few years. It’s a fairly classic shape, so I’m expecting this style to stick around. Remember the divine white bowler I showed you in Clearance Pr0n?
Generally a bowler is going to be a medium to large bag; they’re maybe 60% handbags bags, and 40% shoulder bags. They frequently have shorter “drops”, but may look deceivingly long, so be sure to try them on.
Bowlers are also usually much wider at the bottom than at the top, making the bag somewhat bulky where it hits around your hip if you’re wearing it on your shoulder. I’m not discouraging you from a bowler – I adore bowlers. I’m just passing on my shopping pr0n knowledge. :)
Aren’t these bags adorable though? It kind of makes you want one in every color. Or maybe that’s just me.

Green Totes and Satchels

Don’t tell the other sets, but this one’s really my favorite; it just came out so pretty with all the springy green bags, don’t you think?
This set is about smallish structured bags; as shoulder bags, they may be called “satchels”; as handbags they may be called “totes”. I call them pr0n.
Advantages: these are structured bags that can go from work to weekend, and things will more or less stay where you put them. They may have an inner pocket or pouch or two or four, and they frequently have a space just for your cell phone! They may be expandable, or have an outer pocket, and they’re just ubiquitous and classic.
A tote or satchel will never go out of style, you can always find it with the latest color or trend (buckles, zippers), and they’re easy to find in every price range. If you’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring one handbag (quélle horror!) , bring your satchel or tote.

I like the manbags.

Messenger bags are great; there’s no reason you shouldn’t adopt one as long it’s proportional. Our grey friend here is 6′ tall and that black bag it hits at his hip. On me it’s going to be at my knee. Women’s messenger bags are probably proportioned more appropriately, that’s all. But if you like one, take it to a shoe/luggage repair shop. I’m sure it’s a $10 fix to have straps shortened. :)
Oh, if only I’d seen this post before I bought my last bag last fall — it was a bowler-style bag, and I couldn’t understand why it wouldn’t stay on my shoulder! Totes and satchels are the ticket for me, I think. :)
And my brother has a manbag he loves. Glad to see them being pimped here — they look really nice!
Oh, yea. That’s a *must* for me. I always make sure the stupid thing fits comfortably on my shoulder and under my arm (since that’s how I like my bags). Many a cute bag has been put back on the shelf because of that. *sigh*

I have a lovely tommy hilfiger hobo that I bought before he sold his company, but I never use it because of the large space/things in a jumble problem. It has little pockets for my phone and makeup, but it all ends up in the middle no matter what. It’s adorable, though. I should break it out.
My supervisor carries a manbag (satchel-he bought it in europe), and he loves it more than his briefcase.
I adore hobos, but they’re just so…lumpy. I require a satchel most of the time. Europeans are big on manbags! They’re quite chic over there!

I’m the kind of girl who hates changing her bag for every outfit. Let’s face it, although I play a fashionista on the internet, in reality I’m all about comfort.
When I saw my favorite bag ever, I thought, “There’s no WAY I could carry this.” And I walked on by it. I walked on by it probably 10 times, always looking at it out of the corner of my eye. I stopped to fondle it once or twice, to reassure myself that I didn’t really like it. No, the deep red was just not my style. I didn’t REALLY need a bag big enough to fit a sketchbook or my laptop in, right?
Definitely not…
I don’t even need to tell you how happy I am that my big, blood red satchel now lives with me, and has pockets and pouches for absolutely everything. I love this bag more than I ever thought I could love a bag.
The best part? I got it on SALE. Oh, my sweet, sweet, 1/3 off baby…
